Vulpy Commerce ships with basic product listing on Core. The Starter Pack adds advanced storefront search with facets, better relevance, and typo tolerance. This page explains how search works and how to verify it is ready before going live.

How search works

An indexer picks up products from Medusa and builds a searchable index. The storefront queries that index for the /search page and for category pages. Results include facets so shoppers can filter by colour, finish, and other attributes. Advanced search is enabled automatically when the Starter Pack is installed. To confirm it is working:
  1. Start the storefront and index services in your environment.
  2. Open http://localhost:3000/search in dev (or your live storefront domain).
  3. Enter a query and confirm results render with facets.
If results do not appear, check that the index service is running and reachable from the storefront container.

Facets and customization

Colour swatches and finish facets ship as Starter Pack facets. You can extend them further via Payload productContent metadata. For guidance on extending storefront blocks, see /customize/blocks.
Search requires the storefront to reach the index service (for example, Meilisearch or Algolia, as configured). Make sure the index service is running before you go live, or the search page will return no results.
