localhost:9000/app for dev, or api.<domain>/app for live. This page shows how to set up shipping options and tax providers so every checkout returns the right totals.
Shipping concepts
Medusa uses three building blocks for shipping:- Shipping profiles group products that share the same shipping requirements (for example, standard items versus oversized items).
- Shipping options price a shipment for a specific region and profile. Each option has a fulfillment provider, a price, and rules about when it applies.
- Fulfillment providers execute the actual shipment. Medusa ships with a manual provider, and you can add integrations for carriers.
Add a shipping option
1
Open the Medusa admin
Go to
localhost:9000/app in dev, or api.<domain>/app in live. Or just ask Fox to add the shipping option for you.2
Pick a region
Navigate to Settings → Regions and select the region you want to configure.
3
Add a shipping option
Click Add shipping option. Choose a fulfillment provider, set the price, and link a shipping profile.
4
Save and test
Save the option, then start a checkout from the storefront to confirm the rate appears.
Tax configuration
By default, Medusa calculates tax with a per-region rate. You set the rate when you create or edit a region in the admin. If you need automated tax calculation, install a tax provider integration inapps/medusa-backend. Providers such as TaxJar or Avalara connect to live rate APIs. See the Medusa tax docs for integration steps.
Tax provider credentials belong in
environments/<name>/.env. Never commit them to version control.Payments
